Chocolates by Big Time Gaming: A Sweet Slot Review
A Visual and Auditory Treat
Big Time Gaming nailed the atmosphere. The reels sit inside a charming, old-fashioned candy shop, complete with shelves stacked high with colorful jars. Symbols feature an array of tempting treats—think truffles, candy coins, and glossy chocolate bars. The real eye-catchers are the beautifully wrapped boxes that act as high-value symbols. It's a warm, inviting palette of rich browns and golds, accented by colourful candy colors. The soundtrack? A playful, upbeat melody that perfectly fits the theme, sprinkled with satisfying crunches and chimes on wins. Honestly, it's a cohesive and downright appetizing package.
Gameplay Mechanics and Betting Range
Here's the interesting part: Chocolates keeps it classic. Forget the provider's famous game engine seen in games like Extra Chilli Megaways. Instead, you get a straightforward 4-reel, 3-row grid with fixed paylines. It's a refreshingly simple setup, ideal if you're not in the mood for complex, changing reels. The betting range is wonderfully flexible, too. You can spin for as little as $0.10 or go up to $20.00 per spin. That accessibility, paired with medium volatility, creates a balanced rhythm. You'll see a mix of smaller, frequent wins and the occasional bigger payout—far less stressful than a high-volatility thriller like Castle of Terror.
Symbols, Paylines, and Payouts
The paytable is as sweet as it looks. Lower values are the classic card royals (10, J, Q, K, A), styled with a fancy, dessert-themed font. The premiums are all those delicious chocolates, with the ornate purple box being the most valuable. Wins require three or more matching symbols on a payline, starting from the leftmost reel. Keep an eye out for the Wild symbol—a swirling chocolate vortex marked "Wild." It substitutes for any regular symbol to help stitch winning combinations together. Special Features and Bonus Rounds
Don't let the classic exterior fool you. The Chocolates slot packs a delightful punch with its special features. The real magic happens with the Scatters and Free Spins.
- Scatter Symbol: Look for the golden "Bonus" chocolate bar. Land three or more anywhere, and you're in for a treat.
- Free Spins Feature: This is the main event. Trigger it, and you're awarded 8 free spins. But first, you play a picking game! Choose from chocolate boxes to reveal multipliers that apply to ALL wins during the bonus round. These can be substantial, seriously boosting your potential. You can even retrigger more spins by landing extra Scatters.
- Gamble Feature: After any base game win, you can gamble it. It's that classic card-prediction game for a chance to double your money—pure, optional risk-and-reward.
RTP, Volatility, and Hit Frequency
With an RTP of 96.6%, Chocolates sits comfortably above the industry average. That's a theoretically favorable return for players. Combine that with its medium volatility, and you get a seriously player-friendly profile. You won't endure the long dry spells of high-volatility games or be bombarded by the tiny wins of low-volatility ones. It strikes a perfect middle ground: steady action with a genuine shot at a big win, especially during that multiplier-loaded Free Spins round. It feels similar in balance to other BTG hits like Big Bucks Deluxe.
How It Compares to Other Big Time Gaming Slots
Big Time Gaming is famous for innovation, but Chocolates shows they've mastered the classics, too. If you love BTG's quality but prefer fixed reels, this and Kingmaker are top picks. Craving a candy theme with more chaos? The Reactoonz series offers a wildly different, grid-based experience. And if you're wondering what all the fuss is about, comparing this to our guide on Megaways vs Traditional Slots highlights the different appeals. Thematically, it's a sugary sibling to the Donuts slot, though the gameplay features diverge.
