Great Book of Magic Deluxe Slot Overview
RTP, Volatility & Math Model
This game doesn't mess around with its numbers. The 96.47% RTP is excellent and above average, which is a nice cushion for the brutal ride ahead. The volatility is officially listed as Very High, and you will feel every bit of that label. Sessions are dominated by long, dry stretches where the reels feel dead. This math model is built for players who are comfortable with significant balance swings and who play for the one big session-changing bonus, not for steady entertainment.
Game Features & Mechanics
The game uses a standard 5x3 reel set with 10 fixed paylines. The star is the Great Book symbol, which acts as both a wild and a scatter. Landing three of these books triggers the main Free Spins feature. Here's where the magic happens: before the round starts, one regular symbol is randomly chosen to become a special expanding symbol for the duration of the free spins.
During the bonus, if enough of that chosen symbol lands to form a win, it expands to cover all positions on its reel. This can lead to entire reels filling up with the same high-paying symbol, creating those massive wins. The feature starts with 10 free spins, and you can retrigger more spins by landing additional book scatters. The potential is enormous, but the randomness of which symbol gets chosen is everything. If it picks a low-paying card symbol, your bonus is pretty much dead on arrival. That gamble is central to the experience.
Wazdan's "Deluxe" touches include their familiar suite of player-choice features: Volatility Levels, which let you adjust the risk profile, and a Unique Double Screen Mode for landscape play. The most practical addition is the Cash Infinity feature, a bonus buy option that lets you purchase entry into the free spins round for a multiplier of your bet. It's a direct but expensive shortcut to the action.
Visual Design & Theme
Wazdan gave this deluxe version a noticeable visual upgrade. The graphics are sharper, the animations are smoother, and the overall presentation feels less dated than the original. The theme is classic slot magic: ancient books, glowing orbs, crystal balls, and the standard royal card symbols styled with a mystical font. The soundtrack is a haunting, atmospheric tune that builds tension nicely, especially when you're waiting for that third book to land. It's not the most original theme on the market, but the presentation is clean and effective. My one gripe is that during base game dead spins, the serene music can start to feel a bit too relaxing, highlighting the lack of action.
Who Should Play Great Book of Magic Deluxe?
This slot is a specialist's tool. It's perfect for high-volatility veterans who understand the grind and are specifically hunting for a huge multiplier. You need the balance to withstand the extended periods of minimal returns and the patience to not get frustrated when the free spins feature finally triggers but picks a dud symbol. The bonus buy option also makes it a target for players who prefer to skip the base game and take their chances on the bonus round directly.
Conversely, you should avoid Great Book of Magic Deluxe if you're a casual player looking for frequent, smaller wins to extend your session. The very high volatility will burn through a small balance quickly without any satisfying moments. If you get easily frustrated by bonus rounds that fizzle out due to bad symbol selection, this game's core mechanic will drive you nuts. It's a polarizing experience by design.
